STOP & LOOK & LISTEN my young friends!
Here you are – beautiful and healthy…and young. You have everything
going for you. Life is great. You may have put on a few pounds… that’s
all. You have the world at your feet with so many choices for your future;
and the danger of added weight and poor health and how it affects your life
is the furthest thing from your mind. You are young and healthy…and beautiful…..why
should you think about it NOW?
Stop right now! Think! NOW IS exactly the right time, while you’re still
young, to give this weight thing serious thought—whether you’re
overweight, even a little, or not. The Baby Boomers ahead of you did not do
this…they did not think ahead…they have slipped into “overweight” – then
went soon into obesity instead of preventing poor health and early illness…possibly
for their lifetime. They created their own undoing…don’t follow
in their footsteps.
New research shows that the Baby Boomers, now reaching their 60’s, will
not benefit from the promise of a longer, healthier life span provided by advances
in medical science. Instead, they are eating their way into an early grave…and
along the way they will bear many unnecessary aches, pains, and unnecessary
serious health problems not to mention the possibility of huge medical bills.
I beg you to think ahead NOW; don’t slip into this syndrome, this life
threatening example of what is happening in America….YOU must take charge
of YOUR body, no one, absolutely no one, can do it for you.
When I was very young, my father taught me about p-r-e-v-e-n-t-i-n-g problems
and how important it is. This was my good fortune. . . and I hope I can do
the same for you by bringing it to your attention—or, through you, to
the attention of a young loved one.
Yes, with good health you can even still be very flexible at age 71….which
is when this picture was taken.
Obesity and poor health do not happen overnight…it’s so easy to
develop the problem little-by-little every day without thinking about it until
one day we say, “how did this happen to me.” Then the work and
money needed to “undo” begins….if it’s possible!
LOOK? Look at what? Look all
around you. Read the papers and magazines …watch
what’s happening to so many overweight people in this country. This in
itself should send you spinning to take care of yourself. Look at the serious
surgeries people are going through to UNDO the very problems they caused themselves,
mostly by overeating, and poor nutrition. Look at their bad knees, joint problems,
arthritis, the medication they must take for high blood pressure and many other
ills. Look at the money they are forced to spend that they could have stashed
away building a nest egg. Look all around you…look in the shopping carts
in the supermarket and see who is buying what. You will not find the same foods
in the basket of a healthy looking, slimmer person’s basket. Look…you’ll
prove it to yourself.
I would like you to at least LISTEN to a few “rules” on how you
really can stay youthful, beautiful and healthy throughout your entire
lifetime.
In the long run it is so much easier than experiencing a life filled with the
repercussions of health problems and the pain and expense that goes along with
it. Here’s the answer:
Eat Less
There are at least 35 diet books on the market this minute that promise you
will lose weight if you buy their book. Each book has a different gimmick….Forget
it….all you have to do is A) eat less B) eat healthy….C) make sure
you burn energy in some way. It can be anything from walking to sports activity—anything
that gets your body moving. Using more calories than you are consuming on a
daily basis is the only way to keep your weight normal throughout your life.
Gimmicky diets don’t work!
You should make a plan, give it plenty of thought, take pride in your plan
and stay with it… it should be simple, something you can do every day
with no extra work…. Your life, certainly your healthy life, may depend
on it.
Using safe diet pills, or a nutritional diet drink, or even an appetite suppressant
can HELP, but they can only assist the program; they can’t do the whole

6th issue of USA Today titled, “Obese Boomers Face Immobile Future.” It
points out that millions of overweight baby boomers are on the fast track to
becoming disabled senior citizens, and the problems this will cause for them
and the nation. I suggest you look in USA Today’s archive and see if
you can access it.
