My skin is now 75 years old and looks the way it does at my
age because I’ve
taken great care to treat it properly by protecting it from the sun and by using
moisturizers every day with the proper ingredients. The dominant ingredient in
OLEDA® moisturizers is Aloe Vera (not water as in most others), the healing
properties of which are very well known. Did your Mom ever cut a leaf off an
aloe vera plant and place its sap on a cut or burn - it healed much faster...right?
So here is the full scoop...don't take it lightly! And DON"T be confused
by the prices of my creams...I keep my pricing down so the average budget can
afford them...they are the best I promise you.
Why are OLEDA Moisturizers, Creams and Lotions superior?
Government labeling regulations require that a product’s ingredients
be printed on the container in descending order by weight, largest one first.
Therefore,
the first ingredient you see on a label is the one that makes up more of the
formula than any of the others.
Take a look at the moisturizer you’re currently using. If it’s OLEDA,
the first ingredient listed will be Aloe Vera Concentrate, if it’s another
brand chances are the first ingredient listed on the package is water. That’s
not all bad. You need water for the moisturizing effect, and many moisturizers
use Aloe Vera or an extract of it somewhere further down on the list. This means
that OLEDA creams and lotions use more expensive Aloe for the protective and
healing qualities it’s known for. That’s why I claim my moisturizers
are superior.
Do moisturizers work?
There are lots of dubious claims and mysterious ingredients, but, yes, by trapping
water, moisturizing can help with dry skin.
It may be cold and wet outside in winter, but indoors most of us live in dry
conditions. Winter heating systems, particularly forced air, create bone-dry
air. Water evaporates quickly out of the skin in such parched circumstances.
That’s not a medical problem necessarily. The real issue is discomfort—dry
skin can be sore, tender to the touch, and often itchy. There’s also
the red, rough, scaly appearance as pictured in many advertisements.
Try this test: Dampen a tissue with water – spread it out flat on your
vanity. You will be surprised at how little time it takes for the tissue to
become completely dry. . . bone dry. THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS TO THE SURFACE OF
YOUR SKIN IF YOU DO NOT USE A MOISTURIZER. . .AND IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO PREVENT
YOUR SKIN FROM DRYING OUT FOR THE 7 OR 8 HOURS OF SLEEP THAT I HOPE YOU’RE
GETTING EACH NIGHT.
There is a lot of
attention devoted to the dry skin problem: there are dozens
of creams and lotions for treatment of it. Companies learned long ago
that science sells, so labels and ads often use scientific sounding terms.
Moisturizers are often billed as hypoallergenic or “allergy tested”—even
though there’s no government standard for making such a claim. Some products
brag about being noncomedogenic—an impressive word that means they won’t
cause a break-out (pimples)—but almost all moisturizers on the market
today use ingredients that are noncomedogenic. Lists of vitamins lead us to
believe that moisturizers can nourish skin or stoke it full of antioxidants.
Yet in many cases vitamins in moisturizers are probably too small to have much
effect.
The fact is that despite long lists of obscure ingredients and the scientific
sounding terms, all moisturizers help with dry skin for a pretty simple reason:
they supply a little bit of water to the skin and contain a greasy substance
that holds it in. In fact, if greasiness weren’t a problem, we might
all go back to using the solution for dry skin that our grandparents used:
petrolatum.
One reason for the proliferation of moisturizers is the continuing search
for a mix of ingredients that holds in water like petrolatum but feels nicer
on the skin for daytime use
(See OLEDA Wrinkle Smooth Night Cream whose primary ingredient is petrolatum
and contains no water. It works at night by preventing moisture from evaporating,
nurturing the skin with its other ingredients, such as DMAE, Alpha Lipoic Acid
and Retinol derived from vitamin A – not the chemical ingredient Retinol.
(You don’t want to use this cream during the day because it is too heavy
and oily looking. But, boy, does it do the job while you’re sleeping.)
The good news is that despite all the unknowns and salesmanship, you really
can’t go very wrong. Almost all the moisturizers on the market will help
with dry skin, and in most cases, the choice comes down to subjective experience—and
simply whether you like the feel and smell --- unless you want a moisturizer
with something more.
Enter OLEDA Moisturizers
Look at the ingredient list of every OLEDA® cream and lotion, including
the moisturizers, and you will find the ingredient listed first is Aloe
Vera Concentrate, and this is from the whole Aloe Vera plant, not just the sap.
In OLEDA® moisturizers, the second ingredient is water.
About Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera contains numerous vitamins and minerals, enzymes, amino acids, natural
sugars and agents which are considered anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial.
The combination and balance of the plant's ingredients are what purportedly
gives it its healing properties. Aloe Vera is a well known skin healer and
conditioner (it’s widely used to heal burns, for example). It is rich
in minerals, vitamins, amino acids, enzymes, mono- and polysaccharides and
many other constituents. There is now clinical, as well as anecdotal evidence
to show that aloe vera has powerful healing, immuno-modulating, anti-inflammatory
and tissue regeneration properties.
Throughout the ages, copious volumes have been written about aloe vera and
its healing properties and benefits. It contains several analgesics and it
can also penetrate the layers of the skin, soothe the nerves and reduce inflammation.
OLEDA® Moisturizers with Aloe Vera as primary
ingredient
For during the day:
Nutritive Day Cream 2 oz. $18.00: The first
ingredient is Aloe Vera for healing
and conditioning, the second is Purified Water for moistening, and then there’s
an occlusive, Stearic Acid, to prevent moisture from escaping, and a humectant,
Sorbitol, to pull moisture in from both the air and deeper layers of the
skin. These interact with emollients that make the skin feel smooth. Excellent
and at the right price.
But, the best time to moisturize and repair your skin from daily exposure
is at night, while you sleep:
Cell-abration Formula II 1 oz. $17.50: The first ingredient is Aloe
Vera, the second is deionized water. In addition to an occlusive, humectants
and
emollients, this cream contains a special mixture of oils and herbs that
penetrate and feed the skin the nutrients it needs for epidermal night repair
and wrinkle reduction. You’ll awake with smooth, bright, silky skin.
This is a terrific night moisturizer in its own right, but, when used in
conjunction with Cell-abration Formula I, 15%
Alpha-hydroxy acid
formula,
it’s the best combination in the world for fighting wrinkles. This
is what I use to keep my skin smooth and wrinkle free (for the most part).
