First, I must tell you a little story,
I never realized it—maybe because I don’t have the problem, or
because it never came up in my customer mail—but recently I made a
discovery that really surprised me. More women than I had ever

Tip To Women on Shaving: |
- Make sure the blade in your razor is not dull. If you’re in
doubt, change it. There is really no difference in the quality of
the shave when using a, so called, “women’s razor.” The variance
lies only in size, weight and balance of the razor. The blades
that do the job are the same. My shaving guru recommends *Gillette
Mach 3 Turbo, triple blade system. He has a heavy beard and
changes blades every four or five shaves (this varies greatly
among men according to desire and stiffness of beard).
- You need to soften the hair, and the best softener is water.
So make sure you shave after/during a bath or shower, when the
hair is soft and moist. Dry hair is more difficult to cut, dulls a
razor and greatly contributes to razor burn.
- Use a shave gel. There’s a reason most men do this rather than
use only soap. The secret to a good smooth shave is moisture
retention. Shave gel is designed to keep the hair and skin moist
throughout the shave and to allow the razor to slide over the skin
with less friction. For this, my shaving advisor recommends
*Aveeno Shave Gel by Johnson & Johnson.
- After shaving, use a moisturizer. You have just attacked your
skin and, indeed, have removed a layer. You need a good
moisturizer and conditioner to revive it and keep it supple.
- Don’t shave over skin eruptions. Go around them. You’ll only
open them up and make them worse.
- Don’t rush. Shave s-l-o-w-l-y. The slower the shave, the
better the shave.
- Don’t be afraid to shave against the direction the hair is
growing – against the grain as it were. You can’t get a close
shave otherwise and you’ll have to do it more frequently. This is
why a good shaving gel is necessary.
- Don’t press down. Use a slow, light touch and, if necessary,
more frequent strokes.
