Oleda Anti-Aging Newsletter: Look and Feel Smashing for the Holidays<

Look and Feel Smashing for the Holidays
Are you shuddering at the prospect of all the work surrounding this Holiday Season:  Thanksgiving – Christmas/Chanukah – New Year’s?  Here’s a thought:  Gather the family and suggest to them that they take over one of them, as if you were a guest.  Wouldn’t that be a relief?  You’ll look and feel better with just that much stress lifted from your shoulders.

Do you feel that you deserve a bit of a holiday splurge, just for yourself?  Do it, even if it’s a little one.  You’ll feel better; and, if your little splurge includes buying a new dress or shirt (you could even make it red) you’ll look festive, too. Or maybe a professional massage or a new hair style would do it for you.

But most important, if you really want to look and feel smashing during these upcoming holidays, take care of your health.  The Flu and Cold season peaks the end of December through March.  The time for prevention is right now.  If you can ward off the Flu or a Cold, you’ll really look and feel much more smashing than if you do not.  Now, isn’t that simple, but true?  Here’s what to do:

Check with your doctor about getting a Flu shot . . . now!  This benefits almost everybody, and if you’re among the minority in whom it doesn’t succeed in total prevention, chances are it’ll render the Flu much less severe.  You have to do it every year because the virus changes, so the vaccine needs to change, too. I’ve been getting my Flu shot for the last three decades.   I haven’t had the disease in over thirty years.

So, you avoid Flu injections because you hate needles?  Well, you’re not alone, and now there’s hope for you, too.  The FDA in June approved FluMist, a Flu vaccine administered through a nasal spray.  Check with your doctor.  It’s not being suggested for the very young and the elderly yet, but it has been shown to be as effective as the injections.

But, what if you catch a miserable Cold? You certainly won’t look or feel smashing.  There’s no cure, and there’s not likely to ever be one either, because there are just too many viruses that cause them.  But you can take steps to prevent them:

  • The most frequent carrier of cold germs is your hands!  So wash them . . . frequently.
  • Don’t touch your nose, mouth, or eyes.
  • Wash your hands often.
  • Sneeze or cough into a tissue and discard it immediately. Then wash your hands.
  • Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. The high alkalinity helps rid your body of harmful acids and builds your immune system.
  • Get extra rest and sleep whenever possible.
  • Wash your hands.
  • If you smoke, stop.
  • If you shake someone’s hand, wash yours soon. Don’t touch your face, or anyone else’s, especially your children’s.
  • Try not to touch public handles and banisters with your bare hands. Keep tissues with you.
  • Wash handles of your children’s bikes if other children have ridden them.
  • Carry antibacterial “wipes” for your children after playing in a public playground. This type of prevention can help keep the entire family from coming down with something.

By the way, did I tell you, you must be sure to wash your hands a lot? (smile)

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!  Here’s hoping you’ll be looking and feeling smashing.

   From Questions to Oleda

Does
VEGGIES & FRUIT Concentrate relieve cold symptoms?

Oleda:  While Vita-Green cannot relieve the symptoms of a Cold once it strikes, regular use can assist in the effort to prevent them.  Vita-Green helps to strengthen the immune system, and works to help avert a number of illnesses while raising energy levels. Despite all the benefits, please, there's no need to overdo the dosage: one level teaspoon of the Powder (or two Capsules) once or twice a day.

The following is not a FAQ, since it was asked only once, but it's too cute not to mention:

"I am glad the VEGGIES & FRUIT Concentrate is in capsule form now. Everyone in the family is on it. I have a very fat Himalayan cat. I have tried everything to help him lose the excess weight. Is it safe to sprinkle some of the VEGGIES & FRUIT Concentrate on his food? He also has very dry flaky skin."

Oleda:  I never thought of a cat eating vegetables and fruits!! Funny thought. Yes, it would be healthy for the cat, but start with a few sprinkles...   I'm not sure the he'll like it.

Flaky, dry skin may be helped with the addition of a good quality flax seed oil, or fish oil and gentle bathing in an oatmeal shampoo with conditioners for the skin. Just a few drops of oil on his wet food daily. (If you are feeding only dry kibble that may be part of the reason for dry skin.)
