Oleda Anti-Aging Newsletter: Obesity Linked to More Cancers

   March 2004
I have been told that some people have said,
"OK, her face looks good and she is slim…but what’s her BODY really like!!” So, at age 69, I put on this yellow bikini to show them. (smile)

            In This Newsletter:

   A Message from Oleda
Dear Friend, (No, I’m not trying to sell you a diet pill!)

In this Newsletter I very much hope I can help you understand how much of a REAL choice we have to truly BE and STAY healthy, flexible, and high spirited with lots of energy all our lives.  What this means though is, if you’re overweight, I must convince you how obesity and being overweight works against this goal…yes, this more than almost anything else.

This is a message about nutrition…nutrition that can mold and keep your body and cells in the best condition …at their highest level… so that whatever you do to lose weight will work at it’s best for you …and, more so,…. will help you KEEP weight OFF if you have already reached your goal.

I have lived by these nutritional rules all my life. I have also seen people completely change their life by changing their nutritional habits. Come join in what I believe to be the best thing you can do to go on to living the long life of good health you have always known you should be able to enjoy.

(This is a must read.  It is not “my” information;
rather it comes from documented scientific research.)

Obesity Linked to More Cancers

We all know that there is an epidemic of obesity in the United States . Documented scientific research has proved that it shortens life span, prevents us from looking our best, lowers our self-esteem and frequently denies satisfying day-to-day living.  There is another problem caused by being overweight, that many of us do not realize or think about.  Cancer!

Many people don’t understand that being overweight increases their risk of dying from cancer.  As many as 90,000 cancer deaths in the U.S. each year are related to obesity and could be prevented.  Moreover, these cancer deaths were not confined to malignancies with previously known links to excess body weight, such as breast and colorectal cancers.  Many cancers, not previously associated with obesity, have been identified as being caused by overweight, including stomach cancer and prostate cancer in men, cancers of the cervix, ovary, liver, pancreas, and multiple myeloma and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

In a report published in The New England Journal of Medicine, 57,145 cancer deaths among a group of 900,000 people followed for 16 years were studied.  None of the participants had cancer when they enrolled in the study.  It was found that 20% of all cancer deaths among women and 14% of all cancer deaths in men were associated with being overweight or obese.  For almost all cancers, the risk of death increased in direct proportion to body mass.  Among women, the heaviest of them in the study were 62% more likely to die of cancer than women of normal weight.

An important thing to remember, and worth repeating, is that the 90,000 cancer deaths a year in the U.S. related to excess body weight could be prevented if people maintained a normal body weight throughout their lifetime.  Thus, it is now clear that after cigarette smoking, obesity is the second quantitatively most important cause of cancer.  Can there be any more important reason to keep your weight under control?

Obesity is at epidemic proportions in America (BBC News).

Something is very wrong with the way Americans try to control their weight.  They tend to overeat, pick a popular diet to lose the weight, then overeat and diet again. It goes in cycles.

Let’s change that ---read on.

Which diet-of-the-month are you currently counting on to bring your weight into line with your goals: Atkins -- South Beach -- Beverly Hills --  Pritikin --  Cabbage Soup --  Revival Soy -- Grapefruit – Scarsdale – Subway -- Other? There is no lack of choices.

Whether you choose one of these formal diets, or pop a pill, or if no prescribed format is your preference, you will lose weight only if you expend more calories than you ingest.  There’s no other way. You can do this by decreasing the amount of food you eat (fewer calories taken in) or by increasing the amount of exercise you perform (more calories burned), or, preferably, both, regardless of the particular diet you use to help you.  I believe the exercise portion of any diet program is as important as the diet itself (walking counts).  I also believe you must be careful to maintain the proper level of nutrition in order to nurture your cells and maintain your energy level, not only while dieting, but also as an assist in keeping your weight down.  That’s were I come in.

But before we get to that, once you have reached your weight goal, you need to maintain that level by taking in only as many calories as you’re burning on a daily basis.  So your program doesn’t really end just because your weight is normal. It’s an ongoing thing, as is maintaining a good nutritional intake. So many people forget this, slip back into their former routine and watch their weight skyrocket after all that work and effort getting it down.

I consistently weigh 119 Lbs, ± a pound or two, have maintained that weight all of my adult life and, even at age 69, I’m energetic and flexible.  I have never been on a “formal” diet and I eat everything I have a taste for, just not a lot of it, and, if I feel my favorite pair of  jeans getting a bit tight, I reduce the intake a little and rev up the treadmill a bit faster, until my jeans again fit the way I want them to. This means that my eating habits—and, if you’re on a weight loss or weight maintenance program of any kind, yours, too—require a close watch on daily nutrition.

I get many of my nutritional needs from the supplements I take every day.  For me, there are three of them that I swear by:

1)   Oleda® Veggies & Fruit Concentrate Powder or Capsules (I take the powder in my orange juice, but the capsules are just as good). This supplement gives me the vitamins and minerals found in heaping portions of ten vegetables and two fruits.  It alkalizes my body.  It’s as if I was eating more than my full requirement of these vital foods every day.

2) Oleda® AGE ENHANCER Vitamin, containing 54 highly concentrated pure, powerful - all natural nutrients scientifically engineered to fight the aging process and build energy

3)  Oleda® Aloe Vera Capsules This Aloe adds to my zest, health, energy and helps rebuild cells for a longer, healthier life span.

The nutrition from these vitamins, minerals, and trace minerals keeps my cells in tune, which in turn helps me maintain my weight.  Weight management is a balance of proper nutrition to maintain the acid/alkaline ratios to allow your body to release the stores of fat.  Alkalizing your body prepares it for weight loss and weight maintenance.  A body in a high acid state will hold onto the stores of fat making it difficult to lose weight.  So dieting is not merely eating less to lose weight; it is a combination of good nutrition, exercise, and perhaps even some lifestyle changes to avoid the pitfalls of dieting cycles.  This is what I truly believe in and it is why I offer these products in my company.
