   A Message from Oleda
Dear Friends,

I have just finished a first edit of the first draft of the Introduction to a new book, working title:  AGELESS AGING 'Defying the Aging Process' Look, Feel, BE 20 years younger . . . really!  After rereading it, I believe it has a powerful message, so, although it will be at least a year before the book is published,  I've decided to give you, our Newsletter members, a sneak preview of the Introduction.  I trust you find it inspiring and hope it will give you a boost to help you succeed in your own ageless aging efforts!

I haven't written a book in over twenty years.  My last two (I've had nine published), were titled, How To Renovate Yourself From Head To Toe (Doubleday, 1980), and my novel, Reluctant Goddess (Jove, 1981).  So, I'm writing this one now because there's so much more new and exciting information known today that can make and keep us youthful and healthy all our lives.  Over the last twenty years, I have practiced what I've preached, so that, now, at age 70, I want to share with you my living proof that Ageless Aging is attainable . . . for all of us.

INTRODUCTION

I know, you are saying "it must be her genes; no septuagenarian could look like that without great genes." So I must tell you now, up front, what my dear, loving brother has allowed me to say about him: he weighs over 300 pounds…he is three years younger than I …and he is the first to admit that his health is not very good to say the least. We had the same mother and father, the same genes. 

My mother and father were overweight at one point and my father, at age 40, was in poor health, until he took charge of his life and his well being …which is how my interest in learning how to live  a long, healthy life began. I learned how my father changed his life - by taking over his own health and wellness himself …and I never forgot it.  

But, let's talk about you. If you want to look, feel and BE younger…for the rest of your life, I can help you achieve that goal, as I have done for myself. The art of Ageless Aging is something I have studied and tested all my life….I have walked the walk. I have lived my life searching for what works and does not work. You will find this book "real" and simple to follow.

Ageless Aging is a way of life and it covers the whole body…head to toe….inside out...AND you work on the entire body all at the same time. It's much easier and faster to work on everything at once rather than one "piece" at a time. One "piece" helps the other "pieces" you are working on and the crossovers speed up the process. It's something you "get into" and learn to feel comfortable with. It's not a magic pill or an overnight fix….but it is simple to follow.

If your body and health are very much out of shape, and If you want to achieve serious success with this Ageless Aging book, you must be prepared to think in terms of "within a year" as a time frame within which to achieve your goal.  "Within a year" seems like a long time in today's fast-pace-demanding-instant-fixit world. We are spoiled…we want it all now…instantly…but look at what's really happening to us…nothing…we are not successful because "instant- fixit" is not going to work. One year, if that's what it takes, is not much time when you compare it to the rest of your life. 

Why do I say "within a year?" Because every cell in our body can change within a year…bone cells take the longest…about a full year - soft tissue cells take less time to improve. Healthy cells can change the look and life of every part of the body, including hair, skin, nails, energy, our figure and weight, and, yes, even our outlook on life-and also health in general during those longer, fulfilling years ahead.

Many have taken years to let their good looks, energy and health slide downhill...so what's a year? For some, it may only take a month or two or three. The good news is that we, you and I, can help prevent our own aging, and even reverse it, more today than ever before…no one else can do it for us.

Many people use "heredity" as an excuse and then feel free to believe that there is nothing they can do about "it" - so they sit back and do nothing. What we believe to be inherited traits are often nothing more than bad habits that one generation passes down to the next - to YOU. But if your grandparents and parents ate all the wrong foods, are overweight, not feeling well because of poor diet and no exercise, and maybe suffer a heart problem because of poor habits - you can forget about "inheriting" their poor health and weight problems if YOU simply ignore those bad habits. Often one can change their "heredity" by changing their life style. 

All age groups today are beginning to recognize the vast possibilities. Baby Boomers, even younger people, are now realizing there is so much they can do to prevent aging problems for their entire body…for life. Forty, fifty and sixty-plus-year-olds know that there is much they can do to help prevent further premature aging and, more so, that there is much they can do to, in fact, "de-age" themselves. But the question is how and exactly what. That's where I come in.

Your interest in Ageless Aging is exactly at the right time. Science and Medical research have never before been so interested and involved in working toward this goal. Science has brought us to a time when it has never been easier to stay young and vital as we grow older - to remain beautiful and glamorous throughout all of life. Remember, not long ago age 50 was the beginning of the end, now it is just another beginning. And, as I'm sure you have heard, modern medicine indicates we should be able to live beyond 100 years. You don't want to live to be a feeble 100, you say? How about just a very healthy, beautiful 95-year-old to start?   

Even with the best of science and medical research, NONE of us can assume that a long, healthy lifespan is automatically a given. Each of us must take on the day-to-day responsibility that ensures a flexible, healthy body with lots of energy, youthful skin and hair, and that helps p-r-e-v-e-n-t illness. Sure the genes you inherited are very important, but perhaps not as influential as you think. A recent expert study concluded that seventy percent of our aging process is due to our own lifestyle and environment-controlled by us-and that only thirty percent is because of our genes!  So, medical breakthroughs, past and future, are only part of the journey toward your very own long, healthy lifespan…YOU must step in and help yourself….because, as I've said, no one else can or will do it for you. Let's begin.

   From Questions to Oleda

Q: Dear Oleda, I think you look wonderful, now and all age stages. I hope this question does not offend you but I am wondering if you have ever used cosmetic surgery and your thoughts on women using it.

A: When one is in the public eye, no honest question should offend; and I have been asked often about cosmetic surgery.

Yes, I had my eyes done years ago, but I have not had a face lift. If you look at my "aging" photos along the way, you can see that there has not been a time when a face lift has been necessary. The best thing one can do to avoid needing one is to stay slim. The extra weight over the years pulls the facial tissue and muscles down. I have never allowed myself to become overweight; and, no, it's not my genes...my brother, three years younger, weighs over 300 pounds. (He won't listen to his big sister!). 

I believe in plastic surgery and I would have it done, if I really needed it. But I would research the doctor carefully, checking references, making sure she/he is the best in the field I could find. This is not something one should do on the cheap, either.
